feeling cautiously optimistic

I am having a heart attack of potential awesome!! I was looking in my site stats and saw someone had Googled “Keith Richards Gary Oldman” and while it’s obvious how they ended up here eventually, I decided Googled it myself anyway.

Results? A myriad of links about GARY OLDMAN NARRATING THE AUDIOBOOK OF KEITH RICHARDS’ AUTOBIOGRAPHY.

HEART. ATTACK. Amazon (.com and .ca) is currently listing the audio book readers as Keef himself, Johnny Depp, and some other dude. Amazon.de is listing Keef (Autor) and Gary Oldman (Sprecher) and while I would love to defer to the Germans, it seems that the last references I can find to Oldman being the narrator are from June of this year. As I have yet to find any real definitive information on the subject, I am holding out for the possibility that the miraculously unexpected is indeed true and that dear Gaz does indeed read part of it. Try not to kill my dreams.

In other news, I think the book itself has been at the top of the Globe and Mail’s hardcover nonfiction bestseller list since it came out, which is incredibly awesome given that he’s beating out Justin Bieber. THERE ARE STILL SOME THINGS RIGHT WITH THIS WORLD.

When your light is on the blink, you never think of worrying

In a fit of obsession, I got last minute tickets to the second Paul McCartney show last night and went with my sister. The crowd last night was better than the one previous, but it’s only in going to back to back shows that you realise how scripted and rehearsed they are when he starts making all the same jokes in the same places or telling all the same moderately interesting anecdotes, etc. Still. I can ignore that since the music is still phenomenal the second time round; there were only a handful of new songs, though, and I think the show was identical from “Blackbird” onwards.

Set list and some additional comments below the jump. Continue reading

let me roll it

In what can only be a clear case of temporary insanity, I just spent $275 on a ticket to the Paul McCartney concert in August. Holy crap.

I decided last night that perhaps I should try to see him in concert. I am, after all, a lifelong fan of Los Beatles and I owe it to myself to see at least one of them in concert before the remaining members die. Could I live with myself if I ended up in a position where Ringo was the only one left? No, no I could not.

I hadn’t talked to anyone about going with me so I decided to get two cheapo tickets and figure it out later. Colour me shocked (but not really) when it was impossible to find two tickets at any price level once the tickets had gone on sale. Naturally, I panicked, searched for a single ticket at any price range, and then purchased before my ticket was released back into the pool.

This is more than twice what I’ve ever paid for a concert ticket. Still. Paul McCartney was my first ever celebrity crush when I was thirteen. This has been a long time coming!

I blog about super important things

I’m unlikely to ever buy another Guitar Hero game now that I have Beatles Rock Band, but I’m super excited to see that Guitar Hero: Warriors of Rock features The Rolling Stones’ “Stray Cat Blues”. OMG.

This just solidifies my desire for someone to make Rolling Stones Rock Band. I mean Christ, if Aerosmith gets its own version of Guitar Hero, surely someone can make a Stones-specific game? ABKCO, the company that owns the Stones 1960s catalogue, has always seemed very happy to provide rights for their music’s usage in just about anything — so why not this?

Failing this, for the love of god could someone make a classic rock version of one of these games that actually exclusively features only classic rock songs? I’m putting a timeline cap on this, too: nothing recorded after 1980, no matter how awesome.

wasn't looking too good but I was feeling real well

keithrichards.jpgA friend of mine messaged me excitedly at lunch to tell me that of all the people who could have been casually visiting the cultural institution she works for yesterday, it was none other than KEITH RICHARDS who decided to show up. Keith Richards!

People, I love this man. Take my love for Gary Oldman and multiply it by a thousand and you don’t even begin to come close to how much I love dear old Keef. There is no one more awesome — those who try to claim otherwise clearly just don’t know enough about him. To paraphrase Johnny Cash: there is no such thing as someone who is not a fan of Keith Richards; there are only current fans and future fans.

I don't have a problem with drugs, I only have a problem with cops

I Heart Trending Topics Right now on Twitter, the trending topics are as appears in the image on the right. I♥JonasBrothers? I♥Justin Bieber? I’m having a Billy Mack moment:

But wouldn’t it be great if Number One this Christmas wasn’t some smug teenager, but an old ex-heroin addict searching for a comeback at any price?

INDEED IT WOULD. For the love of all things holy, someone please help me make “I♥KeithRichards” a trending topic.

it's not about living, it's about living with yourself

Keith Richards’ autobiography is apparently due out in the fall and Maclean’s says that his love of books [is] among the surprises in his forthcoming memoirs. Except anyone who knows anything about him remembers that the reason the man fractured several ribs several years ago was because he fell off the ladder while reaching for a book in his library. So, not surprising!

Still, he has some nice thoughts on the importance of libraries:

When you are growing up there are two institutional places that affect you most powerfully: the church, which belongs to God, and the public library, which belongs to you. The public library is a great equalizer.

I also like that he apparently originally tried to organize his library according to the Dewey Decimal system. Really, Keef?
