  • Crumpled City JUNIOR by Palomar – The Dieline
"These maps belong to the series of the Crumpled City™ Family, the unique and indestructible maps that won’t need to get folded. [...] Rich in information: each map features several not-to-be-missed Junior locations. Such “unmissable” top places were selected thanks to the help of “special on location correspondents” who have turned these maps into up-to-date tools that make traveling come alive."
  • Design Crush » Popsicles!
It's the wrong time of year for this but I do not care. Make your own popsicles!
  • How to be a fan of problematic things » Social Justice League
"But when you say that sexism and racism and heterosexism and cissexism have to be in the narrative or the story won’t be realistic, what you are saying is that we humans literally cannot recognise ourselves without systemic prejudice, nor can we connect to characters who are not unrepentant bigots. Um, yikes. YIKES, you guys."

  • What We Talk About When We Talk About Female Candidates: She’s Crazy! – this ain’t livin’
"Much of the rhetoric surrounding Bachmann is lively, some of it is very interesting, and some of it sadly highlights a serious gender issue in the way people talk about politics. Many people on the left are found of painting Bachmann as crazy. She’s too crazy to be President. Her politics are crazy. Male candidates with similar, and sometimes more extreme, views aren’t crazy, they’re just evil, or bad. Rick Perry, for instance, is routinely highlighted as an example of a really terrible GOP candidate because his politics are appalling. But few people call him crazy."
  • Shakesville: Question of the Day
"What positive word do you frequently hear used to describe men, but rarely used to describe women?"

twisted sisters

I have a slew of sisters and thought it was high time I shared their blogs with the world.

  1. Things I Made — Amelia is a full time PhD student in English but has a couple of creative outlets when she needs some rest and relaxation. I’ve posted pictures of her paper cut cards before, but she also does watercolours of various sporting figures. And sometimes draws Bruce Springsteen for good measure.
  2. What Have You Done For Democracy Lately? Conversations on the recognition, restoration and renewal of Canadian democratic life — Theresa is an avid Canadian political nut, to put it mildly. When I asked her what kind of quilt she wanted to me to make her, she asked if it could have Canadian Prime Ministers on it. Theresa believes very strongly in growing voter engagement and this is her personal blog on the subject.

Theresa also runs Canadian Voter, which outlines the current major party platforms, both provincially and federally, sans party rhetoric so that Canadians may make informed decisions based on what’s actually in a platform than on party spin and finessing.

  3. Taste Buddies — Audrey chronicles her attempts to navigate the world of baking and eating with a nut allergy. She and her boyfriend love to eat and they document and review nearly every place they go, unless it seems awkward to do so (which is why there are no pictures from the Gordon Ramsay restaurant we had breakfast at in London).
