  • Bones Like Ghosts – The Run of Play
“The animator Richard Swarbrick has drawn a tribute to Gareth Bale’s two games against Inter in the Champions League. If there were a channel that showed live matches in this style, I might forget what living people looked like.” SUPER COOL.
  • FIFA Women’s World Cup 2011: Guided Group Tour
"This one of a kind fan package offers you the opportunity to follow the US through our first two group games, and enjoy three other World Cup matches on the days the US has off. This fully guided vacation also includes tours of the German host cities, daily cultural activities around Germany, and even a meet and greet with a star from the Women’s World Cup!"

If I was actually able to take vacation during this time and if I hadn't already booked a different vacation, I would totally do this. (They go to some Canadian games as well, my fellow Canucks!)

  • The Sew Weekly: Ugliest Pattern Ever Contest
    These are SPECTACULAR.
  • Of Another Fashion
“An alternative archive of the not-quite-hidden but too often ignored fashion histories of U.S. women of color.”
  • How To Walk In High Heels
I pulled all my shoes out of the closet yesterday in preparation for getting to wear them again now that spring is here.
  • Edward, Ed, Ted, Teddy, Teddy Boy
“Edwardians, or “Teddy Boys” as they became known, are an English youth subculture that created a distinctive style by wearing clothes inspired by the Edwardian period that the tailors of Savile Row attempted to reintroduce after World War Two.”

  • Real Wedding: Katie + Cameron’s Camp Wedding
This couple used a TREBUCHET for the bouquet toss at their wedding. A TREBUCHET.
  • Girls on Screen
“Girls on Screen is a weblog dedicated to exactly what it says on the tin: Chicks watching television. We’re a diverse group of ladies passionate about the small screen, and this is home to our collective rants, raves, swoons and snark. While we sometimes discuss serious issues, this blog is mostly just us getting together having fun. This is the internet, after all: We’ve got opinions, and we’re ready to share them.”
  • Vintage Sock Monkey Birthday Party
I’m not into sock monkeys on any level; however, this is still a really awesome birthday party.
  • Udre Udre – Wikipedia
“Ratu Udre Udre was a Fijian chief who holds the Guinness World Record for ‘most prolific cannibal.’” I want to be the person who keeps stats on this.

Social Justice

  • Women’s Stories, Movies and the Oscars | Feminist Frequency
"Oscar season is a time when members of Hollywood are celebrated and reward for the work that they do. But it is also a time when we see just how male centered the movie industry really is. As Allan G. Johnson points out, “If you want a story about heroism, moral courage, spiritual transformation, endurance, or any of the struggles that give human life its deepest meaning, men and masculinity are usually the terms in which you must see it,” and since the vast majority of Hollywood films are about these narratives then that might explain the overabundance of stories about men’s lives."

  • Hipster Raul Meireles only joined Liverpool “ironically” « Fisted Away
"Sources close to the club have reported that attempts to bond with his teammates have floundered due to his insistence on drinking Pabst Blue Ribbon on nights out, a brand unavailable in Liverpool. Rumours that he attacked a DJ for not playing his Phil Collins vs Lil Jon mashup at a vegan crunk night remain unconfirmed."
  • UniformFreak.com
A seriously exhaustive collection of one man's collection of flight attendant uniforms. This is of interest to me from both a design perspective and an aviation perspective.

  • Bastian Schweinsteiger 2010 World Cup Drinking Game
    A) I wish I had discovered this prior to the start of the World Cup. B) I like the bitchface rule under the Ladies Only rules. C) It seems that the creators of said game go to the same pub I do. The world is small!
  • Letters of Note: You were of course the outstanding candidate
"In May of 2006, armed only with a glittering virtual career on Football Manager 2005 and limited success in charge of a local under-11s team, then-25-year-old John Boileau made the leap and applied – with tongue firmly in cheek – to become the new manager of Middlesbrough Football Club."

Once I finally win the Champions League while coaching Bayern Munich, I am totally applying for any and all open Bundesliga positions that may be available in real life.

  • The Best Eleven: Premier League: Tallest and Shortest Players – 2010/2011
After Aaron Lennon (5'5") and Peter Crouch (6'6") teamed up to score that great goal for Tottenham during their first leg against AC Milan, I wondered if they were the shortest and tallest players on Tottenham. Turns out they are, and that they're also the shortest and second tallest in the entire Premier League as well.

  • What’s Andy Carroll Really Worth? | Unprofessional Foul
"1.52 Blackburn Rovers — The Chicken People bought the club for a mere £23M (again, according to Wikipedia). But as James T pointed out yesterday: Why would you want to own Blackburn Rovers?"
  • Agony and Empire – The Run of Play
"And yet, somehow, after the madness and helicopters, here we are, with Kenny Dalglish as manager, Fernando Torres getting a medical at Chelsea, supporters’ psychodials set to either 'extreme swoon' or 'radio chat show', Charlie Adam apparently worth more than Mesut Özil, and Andy Carroll a near equivalent to David Villa."

Sexism, Soccer, and Sexism and Soccer!

  • Own goal! Mic captures Sky presenters’ sexist diatribe against female linesman
I was pretty excited to see a female official during the Wolves vs Liverpool match this morning as I haven't previously seen one in the EPL before today. Turns out, it's shocking that someone with refereeing qualifications and a uterus might actually know the offside rule.
  • Do You Get Rape-y Comments Too?: On Sexism & Sports Media
"Because the guy who called me a "split arse tart" is probably a "nice guy". That's the thing about sexism, homophobia and racism. It's not the exclusive property of assholes. Most of the people who engage in these cultures of hate and discrimination are not obvious monsters. They are normal people.

The worst offenders are probably "great guys" AND sexist pigs. Richard and Andy meant no harm with their sexist banter, and Sky didn't take the culture of its workplace seriously because it's just boys being boys. And maybe the fact that these boys are doing it with a smile and no deliberate malice makes it worse."

  • The Supporters’ Committee, Women and Football – The Kop Blog post – Liverpool FC
"Being a woman at the football isn't easy. Take a look at this very site. Having a picture of a pretty young female automatically attracts “fans” from all corners. It's indicative of the treatment we receive as supporters. I've had male supporters grab, and kiss me in the heat of the moment after important goals. Complete strangers. I've seen a young female steward have the old “get your t*ts out” treatment. At neutral venues where toilets are difficult to find, or there is a huge queue for the men's, it's not uncommon to walk into the ladies' toilets to find men urinating in the sinks. I'm sorry lads, that's just not on."
  • Alex Ferguson Homesick Blues – The Run of Play
I like this blog in general for its soccer commentary, but this is perhaps the greatest thing I've ever seen and combines many of my favourite things: soccer, Photoshop, and Bob Dylan.
  • Scotland Anti-Rape Ad Tackles “She Was Asking For It” Myth — The Curvature
"Rape Crisis Scotland has launched the “Not Ever” campaign — the title referring to when, exactly, a rape victim is actually to blame for a rape."
