- Apparently this is based on a comic that I am now desperate to read.
- I think the synopsis really says it all and the hilarity that stems from such a film should be fairly self-evident. It’s over the top, ridiculous, completely fluffy, and absolutely hysterical. It’s a fun riff on the death metal genre, like a cartoonish and more obvious Spinal Tap meets A Hard Days Night. Actually, if the Live In Japan and Lou’s Inferno levels from Guitar Hero III got together and had a baby, it would be this movie.
- Ever since Viggo Mortensen put out a cigarette on his tongue in Eastern Promises, I have thought that this is the coolest thing you can do with a cigarette. DMC’s manager does this repeatedly through the film (alternating putting her cigarettes out on other people’s faces), which was awesome.
- Loved Gene Simmons as the American metal demi-god, Jack Il Dark.
- Also loved DMC’s six biggest fans who were everywhere and who were great at reading way too much into Sir Krauser’s actions and lyrics. Loved it when they showed up as part of the Power Rangers show at the amusement park; they have to pay for their concert tickets somehow, don’t they?
- I think anyone who likes music, any genre, will enjoy this on some level.
Detroit Metal City
Definitely one of the funnier movies I’ve seen this year.
IMDB Plot Synopsis Soichi Negishi moved to Tokyo to chase his dream of becoming a musician playing stylish, Swedish-style pop. Instead, he finds himself leading the death metal band Detroit Metal City, or DMC, as the costumed and grotesquely made-up "demon emperor" Johannes Krauser II.
