Leatherheads

Try again, George Clooney.

IMDB Plot Synopsis A romantic comedy set in the world of 1920s football, where the owner of a professional team drafts a strait-laced college sensation, only to watch his new coach fall for his fiancée.

  1. About that plot synopsis: at no point in the story is Renee Zellweger John Krasinski’s fiancée, but thanks for coming out.
  2. Can I just take a second to say how much I hate the new AMC theatre at Dundas Square? The theatres are on the fourth floor of the building, which would be fine if they had any signage indicating this. The building it’s in is still largely unfinished and void of tenants and it’s like going to a movie in a construction zone. The theatre itself is finished, but considering how obnoxious it is to even get to the theatre, I do not believe I will be switching from Cineplex to AMC. Plus, AMC charges $13.00 a ticket, which is fucking ridiculous. The only reason I’ve gone to AMC in the past is because the one closest to me will show smaller films that don’t usually get shown on more than one screen in Toronto, but considering this one is right downtown, I can easily go to those single screen showings instead of the AMC to show these smaller films. Ugh. I believe that the film festival will be taking over the multiplex in September, though, because they’ve got enough screens to facilitate the whole festival. Personally, I like watching movies at Roy Thomson Hall, but that’s just me. [/end rant]
  3. George Clooney is charming and John Krasinski is adorable and that’s really all you need to know about this movie.
  4. Actually considering this is a comedy, J Kras was frequently sporting the “Pam Just Set A Date For Her Wedding” Jim Halpert booze cruise face, and alternated this with the “I needed you to know, once” tone of voice. It was kind of the saddest thing in the world and considering that his character doesn’t have the most terribly happy ending, you kind of feel really bad for him.
  5. They need to bring back Prohibition so that they can bring back Speakeasies.
  6. They also need to bring back 1920s fashions. I curse JFK for making the men’s hat unpopular.
  7. For anyone who’s wondering on how the love story wraps up, George Clooney and Renee Zellweger get married, only he’s out of a job and she’s become a writer in the male-dominated sports reporting field. Score one for the ladies?
