Mamma Mia

I feel like most people signed on without realising this was a musical.

IMDB Plot Synopsis The story of a bride-to-be trying to find her real father told using hit songs by the popular '70s group ABBA.

  1. I’m really sick of these stupid Dark Knight animated ads popping up all over IMDB. That doesn’t have anything to do with this movie, just that my annoyance at these stupid things is now spilling over into unrelated items.
  2. If I were in charge of casting three male leads for a movie musical, I’d definitely go out of my way to cast three men who cannot sing. Remington Steele, you pain my ears! We’re very lucky that the these guys had very few opportunities to sing, but my god it was frightening when they did.
  3. I feel like the only reason this movie is set in Greece is in order to facilitate all the Greek chorus jokes. That said, I did rather like the chorus whenever they appeared.
  4. Christine Baranski and especially Julie Walters were particularly fun as Meryl Streep’s BFFs. Also, Julie Walters looks effing hot for her age, and that hair style really suits her. Mrs Weasley! Aw, I really like her.
  5. Do you get the feeling that Stellan Skarsgård’s agent signed him on for this project without his consent? He looked pretty lost through the entire thing, especially during the disco dancing blow out during the credits. Poor guy, he is so much better than this.
  6. Merly Streep is the most fabulous of fabulous woman ever. Even in completely fluffy stuff like this, she’s just so awesome. She makes me want to be a fabulous fifty-nine year-old woman. I’d gladly bypass the rest of my child-bearing years to be as awesome as her! I like how utterly effortless she is.
  7. Truthfully, this was pretty enjoyable despite itself. I thought the ending was kind of stupid, but then again given the entire premise of the story I don’t find this to be terribly surprising.
