The Bundesliga started last weekend and like all Bayern fans, I was a little depressed that they lost to Mönchengladbach at home, which is incomprehensibly ridiculous. That said, today was international friendly day and while most people apparently hate this (“It’s too close to the start of the Premier League season / immediately after the start of the Bundesliga season / some arbitrary time frame before or after whatever other league you support!”), my love for die Mannschaft outweighs any anger I feel towards FIFA’s scheduling silliness.

  1. Bastian Schweinsteiger continues to top my list of Men Whose Babies I Would Gladly Have Ten Thousand Of™. He was not spectacular in the game against ‘Gladbach on Saturday but he was kind of a beast in this game and was super integral to all of Germany’s goals. His assist on Schürrle’s goal in particular was spectacular. Ugh. Love this guy.
  2. The commentators were kind of losing their collective minds over Mario Götze, even before he scored. Calm down, guys, you’re going to give the kid a complex.
  3. Still. It’s very exciting to have so many disgustingly young players on this team because it’s shaping up the World Cup 2014 team nicely. I think maybe only Schweini, Lahm, Podolski, and Klose are over 25 and Klose is the only one over 30. Egad.

Actually, that’s really all I have to say. I just love watching this team play and wish that the Bayern contingent could bring it in the same way when they’re playing together at the club level. Not that I’m worried about the season yet or anything.

In other soccer news, Premier League is supposed to start this weekend and I’m super psyched because it’s been a long three months since the end of last season. I think they’re cancelling a bunch of matches in London because of the rioting so we’ll see if they cancel them elsewhere as I know there have been disturbances outside the capital as well. We shall see.

And finally, Theresa and I are going to the TFC match against Real Salt Lake on Saturday night. This is the first chance we’ll have to watch Frings play live and I could not be more excited. FRINGS. FINALLY. I wish I had more soccer lovers in my life because then I’d have more people to go to games with but, alas, I do not.
