Sadly, I didn’t love it. I was sort of bored until about 3/4 of the way through. I figured out that Sophie was Not Actually Dead pretty much the minute they tried to convince us she was dead (“look at her lifeless body flapping on horseback!”), it was just a matter of finding out how they pulled it off.
I really like Ed Norton in general, though, so that’s fine. I didn’t hate Jessica Biel and I fully expected to, so that was a pleasant surprise. Rufus Sewell is becomming one of those “that guy”s that I like whenever he shows up somewhere. The costumes were pretty. Europe is always pretty.
My final problem was that eveytime they said “illusionist” I could only think of Gob on Arrested Development going “It’s not a trick, Michael… it’s an illuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuusion.”
I’m looking really forward to The Prestige, though.
