The Warrior and the Wolf

A good opportunity to catch up on some much needed sleep.

IMDB Plot Synopsis The disillusioned general of an ancient Chinese army regiment finds himself stranded in a village populated by a strange clan with mystical connections to wolves.

  1. That mystical connection turns out to be a curse where if members of this strange clan have sex with anyone outside of the clan, both parties turn into wolves. Guess what happens.
  2. Not nearly enough battle sequences and way too many rape scenes. Speaking of which, I totally love stories where a woman is raped repeatedly by the same man (our hero!) and then ends up falling in love with and having consensual sex with him, thus somehow negating his previous behaviour. That’s awesome. That’s helpful. No, wait, that’s fucking appalling.
  3. Admittedly, the best part was when I dozed off momentarily. This did not hinder my appreciation of the movie.
  4. The CGI on the wolves at the end was TERRIBLE.
  5. There was supposed to be a Q&A afterwards with the director but apparently this is his first time in Toronto and they don’t know where he got to. Don’t they give people handlers when it’s their first time in a new city? “Um, sorry, we lost the director.” Wow.
  6. This received the most tepid applause of any screening I’ve been to this year. This was polite applause of the “A for effort, but not much else” variety.

  1. Haha I LOVE it when the best part is the sleeping. That was what it was for me in Memoirs of A Geisha. Ugh, awful awful film coupled with a score where John Williams thought he was awesome. Barf.
